When light changes every twenty minutes, spending time mixing exact colors holds you back. Limit yourself to three values—light, mid-tone, and dark—and block in large shapes before touching fine detail.

Smaller canvases (like 6×8 or 8×10) allow you to capture a complete light scene before shadows migrate. Save larger compositions for overcast days or studio development.
